Sicily businesses and municipalities request 100 million euros each
Various economic and administrative developments are occurring across Italy. In Sicily, CNA Sicilia has requested 100 million euros from the regional government to support small and medium-sized enterprises struggling with rising energy and fuel costs. Simultaneously, Anci Sicilia is calling for an additional 100 million euros in the regional budget to ensure local municipalities can maintain essential services like school transport and waste management.
In other regions, the energy crisis continues to impact households. In Arezzo, families are estimated to face an extra cost of 10 million euros between February and August 2026 due to rising electricity and gas prices. In Calabria, the logistics sector is facing a crisis, with Fedralog announcing a general strike of transport services starting October 9, 2026, to protest high operating costs and demand structural tariff reforms.
In Basilicata, the regional council rejected a proposal to abolish a 2.50 euro pharmaceutical co-payment, maintaining the fee to balance the healthcare budget. Meanwhile, in Palermo, the municipal government has approved a feasibility document for a new multifunctional urban park spanning the area between Lolli and Notarbartolo, though official funding has not yet been allocated.
