Sicily police crackdown issues 606 fines, seizes 100 vehicles and arrests arson and drug suspects

The local police in Misterbianco intensified inspections from March to June, issuing 606 fines, withdrawing 13 driving licences and seizing roughly 100 uninsured vehicles. Authorities identified five illegal dumping sites, including a 5,000‑square‑metre landfill, and carried out 27 environmental checks, 21 commercial inspections and 28 stray‑animal interventions. New GPS‑equipped radios were introduced to improve patrol coordination.

In nearby Catania, Carabinieri arrested a 35‑year‑old who had set fire to three cars and seized a blank‑firing pistol and an air‑soft replica of a Colt M4. A separate operation captured a 23‑year‑old drug suspect, despite a house‑arrest order, confiscating cocaine, crack, packaging supplies and €70 in cash. An inspection in Mineo found severe fire‑safety and hygiene violations at a restaurant, resulting in a €3,000 fine and a report to health authorities.
