Sicily promotes remote work to combat brain drain
Sicilian President Renato Schifani has identified remote work, or ‘South Working’, as a vital opportunity for the economic growth of the region’s internal areas. Speaking during the ‘Madonie Nomad Residency’ event in Castelbuono, Schifani emphasized the need for efficient digital connections and adequate workspaces to prevent the brain drain of educated young people.
To support this initiative, the Sicilian regional government has allocated 600 million euros toward incentives for new hires. Additionally, 54 million euros have been designated for the South Working program, managed by Irfis. This measure aims to encourage young professionals to return to Sicily or remain on the island while working for companies based elsewhere.
