Sicily ranks as Italy's third-largest agricultural region

Sicily has solidified its position as Italy’s third-largest agricultural region and the leader in Southern Italy. According to a report by BPER Banca, the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors in Sicily generated an added value of approximately 4.5 billion euros in 2025, accounting for 9.6% of Italy’s national total.

On a national level, Italy ranks first in Europe for agricultural added value, contributing 16.9% of the European Union's total. While Italian agri-food exports reached a record 72 billion euros, imports grew more rapidly at 10.5%, driven largely by a 18% increase in primary agricultural imports.

Complementing this economic data, the Sicilian wine industry continues to evolve through historical roots and modern production. In the Etna DOC region, particularly on the North Slope, Nerello Mascalese remains a dominant grape variety, with producers like Stanza Terrena contributing to the area's high-quality red wine reputation.
