Sicily records high summer return traffic near Palermo

The summer 2026 travel season has concluded with significant traffic flows recorded in Sicily. According to data from the Anas road mobility observatory, the return of travelers did not result in the major highway paralysis seen in previous years.

Travelers demonstrated more conscious mobility by spreading departures across weekdays rather than concentrating them solely on peak weekends. In Sicily, the main bottleneck occurred near Palermo, where the A19 Dir recorded over 167,000 transits.

Key monitoring points along the A19 Palermo-Catania highway showed high volumes, specifically at Altavilla Milicia with 93,005 vehicles, Alimena with 30,830, and Caltavuturo with 24,397 transits.
