Sicily Region seeks solution to prevent minor island transport tariff increases

The Sicilian Regional Government is working to prevent tariff increases for state-managed maritime connections to Sicily's minor islands. Regional Councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility, Alessandro Aricò, announced that a meeting with economic operators, including Caronte & Turist and Liberty Lines, is scheduled for Monday to identify solutions to avoid price hikes.

The issue stems from a ministerial contract regarding state connections managed by the Società di Navigazione Siciliana. The regional government aims to protect tourists, residents, and local businesses from rising costs during the peak summer season. Aricò reassured travelers that no price increases will apply to tickets purchased by August 9, stating, "the season is not compromised."

Additionally, the regional government has reportedly identified a solution regarding emergency medical services (118) transport for the islands and expects to present a formal measure shortly.
