Sicily regional budget amendment draws sharp criticism from CGIL

The CGIL Sicily union, led by secretary Alfio Mannino, condemned the newly approved budget variation of €221 million by the Schifani regional government, calling it propaganda and selective memory. Mannino argued the measures fail to address key island needs such as public health, waiting‑list reductions, welfare, disability support, employment, housing, local‑government staffing and territorial protection, and warned that the “bonus caro‑voli” could become a one‑way ticket for young people without accompanying job policies.

Regional assembly leader Salvo Geraci of the Lega defended the plan, saying the majority is working to restore fiscal order, ensure financial stability and support families, businesses, municipalities and investments. Forza Italia’s Stefano Pellegrino and Fratelli d’Italia’s Giorgio Assenza also rejected the CGIL’s accusations, emphasizing the intended benefits for families, enterprises, health services, municipalities, disability, schools and culture.
