Sicily reopens applications for economic support for women victims of violence

The Sicilian Region has reopened the application period for the ‘reddito di libertà’ (freedom income), a support measure designed for women victims of violence who are experiencing economic vulnerability. The initiative is aimed at women residing in Sicily who are already being assisted by anti-violence centers or secret shelter facilities and who do not receive the national ‘reddito di libertà’ provided by INPS.

Applications must be submitted by Sicilian municipalities, in collaboration with accredited anti-violence centers and shelters, by October 30. The funding is intended to support personalized projects that facilitate housing and professional autonomy. Eligible expenses include rent payments, the purchase of equipment for starting professional activities, training courses, utilities, and services aimed at social reintegration and employment.

Support is also available for minor children or children with disabilities to assist with their schooling and educational paths. Nuccia Albano, the regional assessor for Family and Social Policies, stated that the economic support is a vital component of a broader path toward autonomy, emphasizing that economic independence is fundamental to escaping violence.
