Sicily short-term rental market sees growth but uneven profits

The short-term rental market in Sicily is experiencing significant growth, particularly in Palermo and the Aeolian and Egadi islands. In Syracuse, the density of non-hotel accommodations has reached over 28 structures per 1,000 inhabitants, which is more than double the density found in Palermo or Catania.

Despite the expansion of the market, profitability is not uniform. While the sector supports approximately 650,000 jobs in Italy and involves nearly 492,000 second homes listed online, high earnings are increasingly concentrated among a minority of professionally managed properties rather than casual individual hosts.
