Sicily to stabilize 1,836 former PIP workers with full-time contracts

The President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, has announced a significant resolution for 1,836 former PIP workers in Palermo. Following meetings with trade unions, the regional government plans to transition these workers to full-time status, increasing their weekly hours to 36 starting in 2027.

To fund this transition, the regional government intends to allocate approximately 39 million euros annually through the upcoming stability law. This measure aims to resolve a labor dispute that has persisted for 25 years, addressing long-standing job insecurity and precariousness. Regional Economy Assessor Alessandro Dagnino noted that the initiative requires both financial coverage and a verified need for human resources, particularly within the cultural heritage sector.

Separately, Schifani commented on the broader economic trends in Sicily, stating that objective data indicates a positive growth trend. He emphasized that the region is utilizing social cohesion funds and a 200 million euro Super ZES initiative to provide better tax treatments for businesses and drive further economic momentum.
