ISAB refinery returns to Italian control under Ludoil Group

The ISAB refinery in the Priolo-Melilli-Siracusa area has returned to Italian ownership following the acquisition of a 51% stake by the Ludoil Group. Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, visited the facility to mark the transition, describing the move as a strategic step to protect national energy security.

Ludoil Group has announced an industrial plan involving 1.3 billion euros in investments over the next five years. These funds are earmarked for improving plant efficiency and developing biofuels. The group has also committed to maintaining the current workforce, which includes approximately 1,000 direct employees and 2,000 workers through related industries.

As a major refining hub, ISAB accounts for more than one-fifth of Italy's total refining capacity. While the ownership change is seen as a victory for national industrial policy, labor unions have called for more concrete guarantees regarding production continuity and long-term employment stability, specifically noting the ongoing role of Trafigura in the supply chain.
