Sicily announces autumn 2026 cultural and heritage programs

Sicily is hosting a series of cultural and heritage events throughout the autumn of 2026.

Historical train journeys will resume across the island, featuring scenic routes through art cities and archaeological sites. Departures are scheduled from Palermo, Messina, Catania, Syracuse, and Caltanissetta, with specific itineraries including the Ferrovia dei Templi and the Ferrovia del Barocco.

In Monreale, the 68th International Week of Sacred Music will take place at the UNESCO-listed Cathedral from October 2 to 9. The program, themed ‘The Life of Christ’, features works by composers such as Berlioz, Wagner, and Scarlatti, with all concerts offered free of charge.

Additionally, the FAI Autumn Days will open various restricted historical sites, churches, and gardens across provinces like Catania and Agrigento. The ‘Carte in Dimora’ initiative will also allow public access to private archives and libraries, including Palazzo Manmano Gussio in Agira.

In Palermo, the historic Targa Florio race is set to return from October 15 to 18, traversing routes through Erice, Marsala, and the Madonie mountains, which will necessitate local traffic modifications.
