Sicily water provider Siciliacque adds June supply, cites private manager faults amid high tariffs

Siciliacque, the regional mixed water company, accepted a temporary increase in water volumes for June, describing it as the "maximum sustainable effort". The company said the problems stem entirely from the integrated water service manager AICA, stating “Criticità solo vostre” and warned that the extra supply adds strain to an already compromised financial situation, citing unpaid legacy debt.

A consumer‑association report for Sicily shows that municipalities with fully private water management charge residents significantly more for water and sewage. The study lists the most expensive cities, with Enna paying €764.50 per year for a typical three‑person household. It attributes higher bills to high wholesale prices charged by Siciliacque and to large distribution losses—over 50 % in some areas—passed on to consumers. Alfio La Rosa, president of Federconsumatori Sicilia, said the result is “a very high price for a very low‑quality service”.
