Sicily water supply disruptions affect Fiumefreddo and Enna municipalities amid management changes and maintenance

In the town of Fiumefreddo di Sicilia, residents faced severe water shortages after the municipal water service was transferred to SIE Servizi Idrici Etnei SpA, which imposed a new schedule limiting supply to specific zones between 06:00‑23:00 and 23:00‑06:00. Mayor Angelo Torrisi warned that the contract cannot be unilaterally cancelled and that the municipality must work with the ATI Catania consortium to address the problem.

Separately, the water company Siciliacque announced urgent maintenance on the Ancipa Basso aqueduct beginning 08:00 on 20 May 2026. The work will interrupt water delivery to eight communes in the Enna province, with restoration times ranging from 13:00 on 22 May to 20:00 on 23 May, depending on the area. Residents and businesses have been advised to store water in advance and follow updates from the utility.
