Sicily water utilities undergo management transition in Siracusa and supply suspension in Agrigento

Aretusacque, a publicly owned water company backed by Acea, will assume control of the water service in Siracusa on 24 June, with a one‑year timetable to extend management to the remaining municipalities of the province. The hand‑over follows the expiry of private operator Siam’s contract and includes a legal dispute over an estimated €21 million sub‑entrance value, as well as a clause guaranteeing the jobs of existing technical and administrative staff.

Separately, the regional water provider AICA (Siciliacque) will suspend water supply from the Favara‑Burgio aqueduct on 23 June for eight municipalities in the province of Agrigento to carry out repair works. Service is expected to resume by 24 June, although full pressure and tank filling may take longer. At the same time, AICA is opening three new customer service desks in Agrigento, Campobello di Licata and San Biagio Platani in partnership with EgoGreen to assist residents with billing, new connections and other administrative matters.
