Sicily’s Girasole Cultural Prize Announces First‑Edition Winners

The inaugural Premio Culturale “Girasole” was launched by the Circolo Culturale Giovanni Meli Montallegro APS to highlight Sicilian excellence in literature, science, cinema, theatre, music and youth development. The prize is overseen by 20‑year‑old poet and President Giuseppe Iatì, with a jury that includes literary critic Gaspare Agnello, Pro Loco president Filippo Vitello and writer Diego Guadagnino.

Recipients span multiple disciplines: infectious‑disease specialist Fabrizio Pulvirenti; scholars Maria Caserta, Pasquale Seddio, Francesco Pira, Liddo Schiavo, Stefania Avola; cultural figure Gaetano Allotta; poet Mimmo Galletto; filmmakers Gaetano Di Lorenzo (docufilm “Fuorisede”) and Stefano Vinciguerra (film “Tradimento e potere”); singers Sara Chianetta and Fiammetta Bellanca; and young talents such as gymnast Stella Cinquemani, tenor Davide Guarraggi and student Elisa T. Professor Francesco Pira of the University of Messina was honoured for his book “La buona EduComunicazione”, praised for interpreting digital and educational challenges in today’s “on‑life” society.
