Sicily's Youth Movements Rally for 'Right to Stay' Initiative
The regional youth wing Giovani Autonomisti, led by coordinator Giuseppe Gallo, called on Sicilian young people to gather for a series of meetings aimed at securing concrete opportunities for study, work and life on the island. The group stresses the need to protect the landscape, invest in maritime infrastructure, revitalize inland areas and retain a larger share of locally produced resources, presenting a political programme centred on Sicily's autonomy and the “right to stay”.
In parallel, the Democratic Party's youth segment organised a public debate titled “Dove nasci conta” in Marsala on 28 July, part of a broader regional campaign to discuss the same “right to stay” theme. Speakers, including PD local secretaries Linda Licari and Riccardo Patti, highlighted the out‑migration of over 100,000 young Sicilians in the past five years and proposed that the discussions feed into a draft law to be presented to the Sicilian Regional Assembly in October.
