Sid named 2026 Police Dog of the Year in Sweden

Sid, a German Shepherd working in the Stockholm Police Region, has been awarded the 2026 Police Dog of the Year title. The award, a collaboration between the Swedish Police Authority and the Swedish Kennel Club, recognizes the exceptional work of service dogs and their handlers.

Sid, who has been in service since May 2024, is noted for his ability to apprehend criminals and locate weapons. The jury highlighted the patrol's initiative in addressing gang criminality and explosions. A significant factor in the selection was an incident where Sid likely saved his handler Jesper Wretman's life. During a pursuit, Wretman fell into a deep body of water while struggling with a suspect; Sid's intervention allowed Wretman to break free from the suspect's grip and resurface.
