Siddaramaiah calls for 75% reservation for backward communities

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for a 75 per cent reservation for Dalits, backward communities, and minorities to achieve an egalitarian society. Speaking at the Karnataka State Backward Castes Federation's Silver Jubilee celebration in Bengaluru, he emphasized that social and political equality requires reservation based on the actual population of each community.

Siddaramaiah advocated for the implementation of a caste census report submitted by the Backward Classes Commission, headed by Madhusudan Naik, during his previous tenure. He noted that a court order currently prevents the report from being made public or implemented. He argued that accurate population figures for backward communities are essential for social justice.

In a parallel political development, Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara are reportedly working to revive the ‘HINDA’ (Backward Classes and Dalits) political plank. This strategy aims to consolidate support among these groups ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. The movement may also involve positioning Dr Yathindra as a future leader within the coalition.
