Siddhanath Gupta receives six-month extension as West Bengal DGP

The central government has extended the tenure of West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Siddhanath Gupta by six months. This marks his second service extension.

According to an order from the Ministry of Personnel, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved a proposal from the Union Home Ministry to extend Gupta's service beyond October 31, 2026. His new term will now continue until April 2027. The extension was granted in the public interest, providing an exemption under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services Rules, 1958.

Gupta is a 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the West Bengal cadre. He was appointed as the DGP and Inspector General of Police (IGP) of West Bengal on March 16 prior to the assembly elections. He has previously served in various capacities, including Superintendent of Police (SP) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) across multiple districts in West Bengal.
