Siddhesh Lad appointed Mumbai captain for Ranji Trophy 2026-27

Siddhesh Lad has been appointed as the captain of the Mumbai cricket team for the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season. He replaces Shardul Thakur, who led the team across various formats during the 2025-26 domestic season.

The Mumbai senior selection committee stated that the decision was made to manage Thakur’s workload. As a key bowler and lower-order batter, the committee aims to reduce the additional burden of captaincy to ensure he can focus on his primary roles and manage rest periods throughout the ten-game tournament.

Lad, the 34-year-old son of coach Dinesh Lad, brings significant experience to the leadership role. During the 2025-26 season, he scored 774 runs in eight matches at an average of 77.40, including five centuries. He has previously served as captain when Thakur was unavailable due to injury.
