Siddi launches territorial innovation project to combat depopulation

The municipality of Siddi, located in the Marmilla region of Sardinia, has approved the ‘Siddi-borgo laboratorio’ project. This initiative aims to create an innovative territorial development model by leveraging local resources to generate economic, social, and cultural opportunities.

A central component of the project is the redevelopment of the former Puddu pasta factory into a multifunctional hub. This facility is intended to foster new products, services, and initiatives designed to combat rural depopulation. The model, developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Ampioraggio, focuses on heritage valorization, the creation of integrated cultural-tourist networks, and the stimulation of local entrepreneurship in sectors such as agrifood, tourism, and crafts.

Mayor Marco Pisanu stated that the project seeks to transform the challenge of depopulation into a development opportunity by attracting families, young people, and investments through sustainable tourism and real estate valorization. The project is intended to be scalable, serving as a permanent laboratory for territorial innovation that can be replicated in other small towns.
