Sidelhorn Summit Trek via Grimsel Pass and Totensee

The alpine route ascends the Sidelhorn (2,764 m) from the Grimsel Pass in the Bernese Alps. Hikers start at the pass’s parking area near the Hotel Alpenrösli, follow a narrow tarmac road before joining a marked stone trail that climbs above the high‑altitude Totensee.

The path continues past a bench and stone table, offering views of the Rhône Valley and surrounding glacial peaks. The final ascent involves scrambling up a rocky ridge to reach a wide viewpoint over the high Bernese Alps. The descent follows the Jostsee, a small mountain lake, before returning along a balcony‑like trail to the Grimsel Pass. The hike is 8.3 km (5 mi) round‑trip, takes about five hours, and is rated very difficult, suitable only for experienced walkers in dry summer weather.
