Siderno celebrations spark controversy over traffic fines
In Siderno, the traditional celebrations in honor of Maria SS. di Portosalvo have led to significant tension between local authorities and motorists. Due to traffic diversions, temporary bans, and the large influx of people for religious and civil events, many drivers faced numerous fines issued by the Local Police.
Main thoroughfares were closed to accommodate rides, stalls, and processions, making parking extremely difficult. While motorists have criticized the rigidity of the controls and a perceived lack of clear temporary signage and alternative parking, the Local Police Command maintains that the inspections were necessary to ensure public safety, emergency vehicle access, and compliance with municipal ordinances during mass gatherings.
