Siderno Mayor calls for new European investment policy
During the Festival delle Città, Siderno Mayor Mariateresa Fragomeni addressed the economic growth of Southern Italy, noting that the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) has spurred a significant season of investment. She highlighted that Southern municipalities have demonstrated an ability to design, implement, and report on projects effectively.
However, Fragomeni warned that this progress faces the challenge of youth emigration, particularly among graduates seeking employment. To combat this, she argued that investment must extend beyond job creation to include essential services such as healthcare, education, transport, and environmental infrastructure to make the region a viable place to live.
Fragomeni called for a new European investment policy to succeed the PNRR, rather than a mere extension. She emphasized that the European Union has proven it can directly invest in territorial transformation. Additionally, she expressed concern regarding differentiated autonomy in Italy, suggesting it contradicts efforts to reduce territorial disparities and could undermine the fundamental rights and opportunities of citizens based on their place of birth.
