Sidi Slimane records 47.1°C as heatwave hits Morocco

Morocco has experienced a significant heatwave, with several cities recording record-breaking temperatures for the month of September. According to the General Directorate of National Meteorology, Sidi Slimane recorded the highest temperature at 47.1 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous September record of 45.8 degrees set in 1988.

Other cities also saw record highs, including Kenitra at 45.1 degrees Celsius, breaking its previous record of 44.6 degrees from 2006, and Sale at 44.3 degrees Celsius, exceeding its previous record of 43.6 degrees from 2021. In total, 10 out of 40 monitored cities exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.

Forecasts indicate continued high temperatures across various regions, with cities such as Laayoune and Smara expected to reach 45 and 45 degrees Celsius respectively, while Settat and Marrakech are also projected to see temperatures in the low 40s.
