Sidney Crosby expected to sign new Pittsburgh Penguins extension
Sidney Crosby is expected to potentially sign a new contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the coming weeks. Entering his 22nd season, the 39-year-old captain is currently in the final year of a two-year deal signed in September 2024, which carries a salary cap hit of $8.7 million.
Reports from insider Josh Yohe indicate that Crosby has expressed a desire to play for several more seasons, health permitting, and has shown a willingness to work with the organization on contract terms and salary. Unlike traditional high-stakes negotiations, the process is expected to be collaborative, as Crosby is known for not being pushy regarding his compensation.
The Penguins currently maintain significant cap space, which provides financial flexibility for future agreements. This comes as the team manages the aging rosters of core players, including Evgeni Malkin, who is also entering a period of contract transition.
