Sidoarjo proposes six-lane Gedangan Flyover to prevent long-term traffic congestion

The Sidoarjo Regency Government is proposing a six-lane design for the Gedangan Flyover to address long-term traffic congestion. This plan aims to accommodate traffic growth for the next 30 years, whereas a four-lane configuration is estimated to reach capacity within only 15 years.

The proposed layout includes three lanes for each direction (Surabaya to Sidoarjo and vice versa). Officials noted that while the six-lane option requires more land, it is a more strategic long-term solution to avoid the high costs and difficulties of future land acquisition as urban density increases.

The project coordination involves the Balai Besar Pelaksana Jalan Nasional (BBPJN) Wilayah V Jawa Timur–Bali and must align with the Surabaya Regional Railway Line (SRRL) project, which includes the development of a double-track railway system planned for 2027.
