Pope Leo XIV honors Polish martyrs of Pratulin

During a general audience, Pope Leo XIV honored the Polish martyrs of Pratulin, specifically Blessed Wincenty Lewoniuk and his 12 companions. These Greek Catholics were killed in the 19th century by Russian Imperial soldiers for refusing to renounce their faith and their unity with the Catholic Church.

Bishop Kazimierz Gurda of the Siedlce Diocese expressed profound gratitude for the Pope’s recognition. The remarks coincide with the upcoming 30th anniversary of the martyrs' beatification, which was originally performed by Pope John Paul II.

To mark the anniversary, the diocese will hold celebrations in Pratulin on October 4, led by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz. Additionally, pilgrims from the Siedlce Diocese are scheduled to travel to Rome on October 6 to celebrate Mass at the tomb of Pope John Paul II and attend a general audience with Pope Leo XIV.
