Siemens and Deutsche Bahn demonstrate driverless train operations

Siemens Mobility and Deutsche Bahn have successfully demonstrated the technical feasibility of fully automated train operations on an open rail network. As part of the ‘Automated Train’ project, a Siemens Mireo train completed a driverless deployment and stabling run, moving from a storage facility to a starting station without onboard personnel. The system, operating at Grade of Automation 4 (GoA 4), performed self-tests, navigated the route, and reacted to obstacles autonomously.

In related developments for the rail sector, the InnoTrans trade fair is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary in Berlin from September 22 to 25, 2026.
