Siemens CEO urges EU to accelerate AI regulation to close innovation gap

Siemens CEO Roland Busch has called for the European Union to accelerate the approval process for new artificial intelligence technologies. He warned that the current pace of regulation, such as the EU AI Act and the Data Act, creates a significant innovation gap. Busch noted that while legislative processes can take approximately two years, AI models evolve at a rate six to eight times faster during that same period, often rendering regulations outdated by the time they are implemented.

Busch emphasized that AI is a critical factor for maintaining future competitiveness. He also expressed caution regarding EU tariffs on China, suggesting that protectionist measures should not be used in a way that undermines overall competitiveness. He acknowledged that China possesses highly capable competitors with strong engineering teams that rapidly adapt new technologies. Despite regulatory challenges, Siemens plans to continue investing in industrial AI applications, noting that much of this development is currently concentrated in the United States.
