Siemens delivers 2,000th Vectron locomotive to Austria's ÖBB

On 23 July 2026, Siemens Mobility handed over the 2,000th Vectron electric locomotive to the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) at the Munich‑Allach plant. The unit is part of a 29‑machine order within a broader contract for 200 locomotives, of which ÖBB has already taken 172.

The Vectron platform, launched in 2010 and built for cross‑border European service, can operate at up to 230 km/h and is used for both freight and passenger trains such as Railjet and Nightjet. Siemens deputy head for locomotives Steffen Bobsien said the milestone “symbolizes the trust that railway operators across Europe place in our platform.”
