Siemens Energy backs hydrogen projects in the US Mid‑Atlantic and Germany

Aternium has appointed Siemens Energy to carry out front‑end engineering design (FEED) for a clean hydrogen plant in the US Mid‑Atlantic region. The facility will produce hydrogen for hard‑to‑decarbonise industries and extract heavy water (deuterium) for use in nuclear fusion, semiconductors, fibre‑optic cables, OLED displays and pharmaceuticals. Siemens Energy will work with Kiewit Engineering Group to finalise a bespoke design and prepare the project for execution.

In Germany, AKROS Energy inaugurated a pilot plant at the H2APEX site in Laage for chemical hydrogen storage in salt, a pressure‑less and non‑toxic method of storing and transporting hydrogen. The ceremony was attended by industry partners Evonik and Siemens, highlighting the company's role in advancing alternative hydrogen storage technologies.

Both projects illustrate ongoing efforts to expand hydrogen infrastructure and diversify storage solutions, with Siemens Energy playing a key role in engineering and partnership support across continents.
