Siemens launches Egypt factory to boost smart‑grid component production

Siemens has opened its first Egyptian factory dedicated to electrification and industrial automation products, marking a $6.9 million (EGP 350 million) investment aimed at supporting Egypt’s industrial localisation strategy and expanding exports across the Middle East and Africa. The plant, inaugurated by Industry Minister Khaled Hashem, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat, German Ambassador Jürgen Schulz and senior Siemens executives, will produce electrical distribution panels, medium‑ and low‑voltage switchgear, protection and control systems, substation‑automation equipment and digital monitoring solutions. Initial output will serve the domestic market before scaling to regional export, aligning with Egypt’s goals to raise industrial exports to $100 billion by 2030 and to expand renewable‑energy capacity to over 30 GW by 2029. Locally sourced components already account for about 40 % of production, with plans to increase domestic supplier participation as the factory integrates into the country’s broader grid‑modernisation and renewable‑energy rollout supported by EU and European Investment Bank financing.
