Siemens Mobility completes 1,000th metro car for Vienna

Siemens Mobility has reached a significant milestone at its Vienna-Simmering plant with the completion of the 1,000th metro car destined for the Vienna transit network. The milestone celebrates the production of the new generation of X-Wagen trains, which have been manufactured at the facility since 2020.

The X-Wagen series is designed to modernize Vienna's metro system, offering a capacity of up to 928 passengers, improved accessibility for wheelchair users, and advanced digital passenger information systems. These vehicles are also prepared for fully automated operation, a feature intended for the upcoming U5 line to increase transport capacity and operational flexibility.

Under current plans, the Vienna metro network will incorporate 44 X-Wagen trains by 2030 to replace older rolling stock. While the Simmering factory focuses heavily on local needs, it also produces rolling stock for international markets, including cities such as London and Sydney.
