Siena Cathedral floor unveiling extended through November

The extraordinary unveiling of the Siena Cathedral floor has attracted over 460,000 visitors during its initial summer and early autumn periods in 2026. To accommodate continued interest, the unveiling has been extended through November 15, 2026.

This extension offers a significant new opportunity for schools of all levels to schedule visits during the autumn months. The unveiling is part of the celebrations for the Year of Saint Francis, marking the eighth centenary of the saint's passing. The theme, ‘Il Sommo Bene’ (The Supreme Good), connects the iconographic program of the floor—a symbolic journey toward divine wisdom—with the prayers of Saint Francis.

The floor consists of 56 marble inlaid panels (tarsie) created by over forty artists across several centuries. These works depict a range of subjects, including Sibyls, prophets, allegories of virtues, and Old Testament scenes. Notable works include the Monte della Sapienza inlay, based on a design by Pinturicchio.
