Siena celebrates 30 years of the Val d’Orcia Treno Natura railway

Siena hosted a commemorative event at Palazzo Pubblico to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Val d’Orcia railway, specifically the Treno Natura tourist service. The 52-kilometer line connecting Asciano and Monte Antico was honored for its role in promoting the historical memory and landscapes of the Crete Senesi and Val d’Orcia regions.

The event included the presentation of a commemorative book titled ‘Il binario in Val d’Orcia’ and a video produced by the Municipality of Siena. Local officials and volunteers, many of whom are retired railway workers, discussed the heritage and international recognition of the steam train service. A primary goal for the future is to reopen the railway for regular services while continuing to operate the historic steam train during weekends and holidays.
