Siena Grima targets historic back-to-back Sydney apprentice jockey crown

Siena Grima, a 23‑year‑old apprentice jockey in Sydney, finished the season with 34 winners, four ahead of defending champion Braith Nock, securing the junior premiership. Backed by premier trainer Chris Waller and mentor Darren Beadman since December, Grima aims to become the first woman to win consecutive Sydney apprentice jockey premierships.

Grima still carries a two‑kilogram claim and will remain an apprentice until January 2028. Her mentors praise her work ethic, noting she has never missed a day of work and consistently follows their guidance. She recently rode Althoff to victory at Royal Randwick in January, joining past female winners Kathy O’Hara, Winona Costin and Rachel King on the honour roll.
