Siena hosts exhibition dedicated to artist Alessandro Franchi
The City of Siena has announced a new exhibition titled ‘Alessandro Franchi. Nella Siena tra Otto e Novecento. Grazia, Etica, Fede’, running from October 30 to February 28. The showcase will be held at the Magazzini del Sale and the Museo Civico di Palazzo Pubblico.
The exhibition explores the life and work of Alessandro Franchi (1838–1914), a prominent Italian painter of the 19th and 20th centuries. Although not born in Siena, Franchi was deeply connected to the city’s cultural history, having trained there and contributed significantly to its artistic identity, including work on the ceiling of the Sala del Risorgimento and the renewal of the Palio’s historical procession.
The exhibition is organized around three themes: ‘Grace,’ focusing on beauty and spiritual harmony; ‘Ethics,’ examining the relationship between art and civic responsibility; and ‘Faith,’ exploring the religious dimensions of his iconography. Notable works included in the exhibition are on loan from the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome.
