Siena: Jockey injured after winning horse falls during Palio race

A dramatic accident occurred during the historic Palio di Siena horse race in Tuscany, Italy, immediately following the conclusion of the event. Jockey Giovanni Atzeni, who had just secured his 13th career victory, was injured when his horse lost balance during the victory lap.

As dozens of spectators rushed onto the track to celebrate, one fan was reportedly struck by the winning horse. This collision caused the animal to fall heavily to the ground, catapulting Atzeni several meters through the air. While the horse managed to stand up almost immediately and reportedly sustained no injuries, Atzeni suffered a head injury.

Atzeni was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Although his condition is not considered life-threatening, doctors have decided to keep him under close observation for the next few days. The Palio di Siena is a medieval tradition held twice a year in the Piazza del Campo.
