Siena men's soccer defeats NJIT 3-1 in season opener

Siena men's soccer opened its 2026 season with a 3-1 comeback victory against NJIT at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium in Newark, New Jersey. Despite a nearly two-and-a-half-hour weather delay and steady rain, the Saints overcame an early deficit to secure the win.

NJIT took an initial lead in the 66th minute when Diogo Rebelo converted a penalty kick. However, Siena responded rapidly with three goals in less than 16 minutes. Lucas Almeida equalized in the 69th minute following an assist from Alejandro Perez Jorda, and Emmy Horja scored the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute. Campbell Stalker added an insurance goal in the 85th minute to finalize the score.

NJIT dominated offensive attempts, recording 27 total shots and 13 on target, the highest shot count for the Highlanders since 2019. Siena goalkeeper Bennet Glinder anchored the defense with 12 saves to withstand the pressure.
