Siena officials demand meeting with Italy's Economy Minister over Monte dei Paschi future

Province of Siena President Agnese Carletti, together with Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani and Siena Mayor Nicoletta Fabio, have asked Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti for an urgent meeting on the future of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena. They describe the minister’s silence as “a grave lack of institutional respect” and stress that the bank’s fate is not only a financial matter but directly affects the employment of thousands, the strategic role of the bank in Siena, and the broader economic‑social fabric of the province and Tuscany.

The local authorities demand guarantees on job protection, the integrity of the banking group and the continuation of credit support for families and small‑medium enterprises. They warn the government against proceeding with any disposal or restructuring of the bank without first hearing the concerns of the local community.
