Palio di Siena postponed due to heavy rain

The Palio di Siena, a historic horse race held in Piazza del Campo, has faced multiple postponements due to severe weather. Originally scheduled for August 16, the event was delayed after heavy rainfall rendered the track's tuff surface unsafe for horses and jockeys.

Following further rain on August 17, officials and the captains of the ten competing Contrade—Selva, Chiocciola, Oca, Nicchio, Lupa, Istrice, Torre, Aquila, Onda, and Giraffa—decided to postpone the race again. The decision was made to prioritize the safety of the participants.

The race is now scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 18, at 7:00 PM, provided weather conditions allow. The program includes the historical procession and the race itself, which will be broadcast on La7. Notable participants include experienced jockey Jonatan Bartoletti, known as Scompiglio, who is riding for the Chiocciola Contrada.
