Siena's Chiesa di Sant’Agostino to host study day on Luigi Vanvitelli

The Chiesa di Sant’Agostino in Siena will host a special study day titled ‘Genesi ed echi vanvitelliani: arte, storia e devozione’ on Thursday, August 27. The event focuses on the work of Luigi Vanvitelli, the prominent Italian architect and painter known for his role in the transition from Rococo to Neoclassicism.

Vanvitelli was responsible for the restoration and interior redesign of the Chiesa di Sant’Agostino between 1747 and 1755 following a major fire. The program, curated by Andrea Amos Niccolini, includes institutional greetings from Siena Mayor Nicoletta Fabio and Superintendent Gabriele Nannetti, alongside various academic contributions regarding the church's heritage and Vanvitelli’s presence in Siena.

The schedule includes a session at the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex to explore the links between the church and the Ancient Hospital. On Friday, August 28, Cardinal Augusto Paolo Lojudice will preside over a Holy Mass at the church.
