Sierpc community seeks funds to transport historic Ol49 locomotive

A community initiative in Sierpc is working to bring a historic Ol49 steam locomotive to the town to complement the modernization of its interwar-era railway station. The station, a registered monument, was transferred from PKP to the city for a symbolic one zloty four years ago following years of decay.

Local activists, led by Rafał Dejnecki, have located an Ol49 locomotive in Częstochowa that has been stationary there for over 30 years. While the locomotive itself is available at no cost, the project requires 120,000 PLN to cover the complex transport via specialized platforms and subsequent renovation. A public fundraising campaign has been launched to secure the necessary funds to place the engine in a park opposite the station.
