Sierra de Guadarrama features diverse landscapes and historical tragedies
The Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range in Spain offers a mix of unique ecological landscapes and historical significance. One notable area, characterized by twisted pine trees and glacial reliefs, has been dubbed ‘Les petites pyrénées’ by hikers due to its resemblance to the Pyrenees. This route leads to Peña del Cuervo near Lozoya, providing views of the Sierra de Ayllón and Peñalara.
The region is also marked by historical events, such as the 1958 Aviaco plane crash. The accident occurred at the Mujer Muerta peak in Segovia, resulting in the deaths of 21 people, including 16 passengers and five crew members. The site remains a point of reflection for those traversing the mountain paths.
