Sierra de Guadarrama launches astrotourism and nature programs
The Sierra de Guadarrama region in Spain has introduced a free astrotourism program titled ‘From Madrid to the sky… from the Sierra de Guadarrama’. Managed by the Sierra de Guadarrama Development Association (Adesgam) and supported by the Community of Madrid's Tourism Innovation Center, the initiative aims to diversify local tourism and encourage overnight stays during the autumn and winter seasons.
The program will visit fourteen municipalities, including Alpedrete, Cercedilla, and Manzanares el Real, offering guided sessions with professional telescopes. Activities include observing meteor showers, Saturn, and the Moon, alongside night hiking and workshops for families.
Additionally, the Mirador de la Gitana, located near the Puerto de Cotos within the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, remains a key destination for nature tourism. This viewpoint offers panoramic views of the Cuerda Larga and the Lozoya Valley, featuring cultural elements such as a sundial and a dedication to poet Federico García Lorca.
