Sierra de la Culebra farmers protest for rural infrastructure and wildlife management

Farmers and ranchers in the Sierra de la Culebra region held a demonstration in Boya to demand urgent solutions for rural challenges. The Alianza UPA-COAG organization highlighted several critical issues, including the need for repairs to regional roads (ZA-111, ZA-912, and ZA-902) that were damaged by previous wildfires, the management of wild fauna, and the payment of outstanding indemnities to the agricultural sector.

The protesters also called for the reinstatement of Socioeconomic Influence Zone (ZIS) aid for municipalities linked to the Sierra de la Culebra Reserve.

In response to regional concerns, the Junta de Castilla y León's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Affairs, and Environmental Policy has emphasized the role of hunting activities as a tool for wildlife management. The administration suggests that regulated hunting can help prevent crop damage, reduce traffic accidents caused by animals, and control sanitary risks, aiming to balance environmental conservation with the economic maintenance of rural towns.
