Sierra Gorda hosts

The municipality of Jalpan de Serra is hosting the cultural gathering "Memoria e Identidad" (Memory and Identity) from August 7 to 9. The event coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Historical Municipality of the Sierra Gorda and the local House of Culture, as well as the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.

A central feature of the gathering is the exhibition “Reencuentro con la randa del tiempo” (Reencounter with the Randa of Time) at the Sierra Gorda Historical Museum. The exhibition showcases the randa, a traditional textile weaving technique that has been practiced in the Querétaro region for nearly two centuries.

Coordinated by artisan Marina Rendón Zorrilla, the exhibition highlights the work of local women who utilize this technique to create items such as tablecloths and cushions. The randa designs incorporate iconography that shares similarities with the textile traditions of the Huasteca Potosina, serving as a medium to preserve the history and cultural identity of the Sierra Gorda communities.
