Sierra Gorda Municipality and Lipigas Launch Gas Cylinder Discount Program

The municipality of Sierra Gorda in Chile’s Antofagasta region has signed a public‑private agreement with gas supplier Lipigas to offer residents discounted prices on liquefied petroleum gas cylinders. Under the program, households can receive a reduction of up to 7,000 Chilean pesos per cylinder, with specific discounts of 2,000 pesos for 5‑kg cylinders, 4,000 pesos for 11‑kg and 15‑kg cylinders, and 7,000 pesos for 45‑kg cylinders. Eligible families must register in person at the municipal office and present their RUT to obtain the discount, which can be applied to a maximum of two purchases per month.

Mayor Adriana Rivera highlighted that the initiative also provides a 35 % discount to local small and medium‑sized enterprises that register with their commercial RUT. The agreement, identified as municipal contract number 202, makes Sierra Gorda the eighth commune in the Antofagasta region to join Lipigas’s discount network, aiming to ease household energy costs and support the local economy.
